Sort of a TV Review | The One Where There's A Top Three Favorite Episodes of 'Friends' List

To pinpoint one’s top three favorite episodes of Friends is like answering Ross’ question in S09E13: “Would you rather drown, or be burned alive?” But after watching the series like, a 100 times, I can pinpoint three of the most unforgettable episodes that would make me guffaw out loud. Though I do love almost every single 22-minute run of Friends, these three episodes I aforementioned can easily be named as my top favorites. In honor of #FriendsDay, here are my top three favorite episodes of Friends (in no particular order, whatsoever):

1. The One With the Prom Video (Season Two, Episode Fourteen)

Oh, the good ol’ days! You know, just Rachel and Ross, originally the series’ dynamic love team in their purest and sweetest. In this episode, the two realized that they really were each other’s lobsters. “See? He’s her lobster!” said Phoebe after Rachel kissed Ross after she found out what her lobster did during her and Monica’s high school prom. Oh, yes, can we talk about that prom video?! This episode also marked the beginning of one of Friends’ funniest running gag: fat Monica (and afro Ross, and high nose Rachel). Though Monica reasoned out that the camera adds ten pounds, but in an amazingly timed joke, Chandler quipped: “So how many cameras were actually on you?” Incredibly funny! And aside from the passionate kiss Ross and Rachel shared, and the blast from the past prom video, another storyline featured in this episode was Joey’s gift to his best bud Chandler: the “woman-repellent” bracelet. Ha! That’s the most amazing thing in this episode: those three wonderfully funny plots were presented without compromising the other; all three were shown remarkably in one of the series’ strongest episodes.

2. The One Where No One’s Ready (Season Three, Episode Two)

This is one of those episodes that profits on the amazing chemistry these six actors had. In this unforgettable 22-minute run, the six were all invited in a gala where Ross would share a speech. And of course, anxious Ross urged everyone to get dressed as they’re supposed to leave in about 20 minutes. The most extraordinary part of this episode was how it’s almost like a one-shot scene! The focus was just on Monica’s living room wherein the friends go out of a door, and back to the room with a gag that’d make the audience laugh out loud: there’s Chandler coming out of the bathroom with a Cosmo mag, declaring that he did put his career first over men; and when Joey came back to the room wearing all of Chandler’s clothes after the latter stole his underwear. There’s no over-the-top plot here, just friends getting ready, proving that the series’ charm is not only dependent of its well-written plot, but also of the actors’ incredible bond with each other.

3. The One With The Embryos (Season Four, Episode Twelve)

Courteney Cox (Monica) and Matt LeBlanc (Joey) named this episode as their favorite, and it’s no doubt, because this really was a brilliant 22-minute run! Starting with rooster crows that awoken the definitely-not-a-morning-person Rachel, the episode just got better as Chandler and Joey declared that they know Rachel and Monica better than the two girls know them. And it’s amazing how the boys correctly guessed what’s inside Rachel’s shopping bag! But as Rachel said, that’s not a strong proof; they should battle, answering real personal questions, not just stupid grocery ones. So with Ross as the host and facilitator, it was a battle of the sexes that made the whole world laugh. On the other hand, Phoebe was getting ready to be implanted of the embryos so she could be a surrogate for her brother and his older girlfriend. That scene with Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) and Giovanni Ribisi (Frank Jr.) was equally amazing. And I just love Frank Jr.’s character. And his quip about how Phoebe should get drunk to get pregnant was the dark humor that tickles my tar black soul. Back to the living room, the two girls and two boys battled it out in a scene where personal trivia about their characters were provided, like how Chandler’s father had an all-male burlesque group called “Viva Las Gaygas” or how Monica had the nickname “Big Fat Goalie” when she was a field-hockey goalie. And boy, can Monica be that competitive! In the end though, the girls lost their apartment to the boys as they weren’t able to guess what really Chandler’s job was. But Rachel guessed that he was a “transponster”, I mean, that’s good enough, right? But the loud and really funny episode ended in such a sweet note when Phoebe found out that she was pregnant with Frank and Alice’s baby—aw!

Friends is definitely one of the best series there is. And after 22 years, when it first aired in 1994, the ten-season run still is timeless. Ten years from now, I’d probably still re-watch some Friends episode and laugh out loud. Actually, I’ll re-watch some episodes now!
